New York based designer Tom Scott has made knits his speciality. After working as a designer for Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein he started his first own collection in 2001. His designs of clothing and accessories can look eccentric, but are wearable at the same time.
Tom Scott can get his inspiration from the most unusual places. The theme of his 2010 Fall/Winter collection called “Hair Culture” originated from a 1921 hair styling guide with the same title he found on eBay. This evolved into a collection where hair and knitwear come together. Alpaca and cashmere coats, scarves and sweaters resemble buns and frizzy hair. As with his previous collections Tom Scott found a humorous spot to present his designs: at the East Village’s Beauty Bar with models surrounded by vintage beauty equipment.
